Surveys Offered

Annually, the Research and Data Center conducts 4 major surveys in order to continue its efforts in serving as the leading information resource on issues and trends impacting academic nursing. Currently, administration of the Employment of Entry-Level BSN and MSN Program Graduates Survey and Doctoral Student Roster Survey are paused for the 2025 survey cycle. Schools will be invited to participate in surveys via email with a personalized survey link.

Annual Survey of Baccalaureate and Graduate Nursing Programs

This survey starts in early September and ends in early November each year. The survey collects data on enrollment, graduation, applications, and salaries of full-time faculty and deans. The data help schools in many ways, such as comparing their salary data with peer schools and knowing the number of schools offering or planning to offer CNL or DNP programs. The data also provides enrollment and graduation information for NP and CNS programs by specialty. Respondents receive a free copy of the annual data reports.

Faculty Vacancy Survey

This survey starts in July and ends in August each year. The survey collects data on budgeted but unfilled full-time faculty positions by degree, rank, tenure, level of teaching, and areas of teaching, and whether these positions include administrative responsibilities.

Employment of Entry-Level BSN and MSN Program Graduates Survey

Survey administration paused for the 2025 data collection cycle.

This survey starts in early September and ends in early October each year. Recent regional reports have suggested that recent graduates from nursing schools are having difficulty finding jobs in some areas of the country. The Brief Employment Survey exists to see if these reports can be quantified by collecting job placement data for recent BSN and MSN graduates. Employer hiring requirements and preferences for recent BSN and MSN graduates are also collected in this survey. For more information about results and survey timelines.

Doctoral Student Roster Survey

Survey administration paused for the 2024 data collection cycle.

This survey starts in mid-August and is due by the end of September each year (for schools that have completed the initial survey, an annual data update is needed). This survey collects doctoral student data at the individual level regarding demographics, education, and employment. The results will help us have a better understanding of student’s doctoral education progression. See study finding using the data of this survey:
